Overview

Nowadays, with the evolution in demand for comfort and quality products, the feeling provoked by the sound a product makes has become a key issue.

OROS Sound Quality solutions are software modules designed to perform efficient sound evaluation and sound design processes closely related to human auditory perception.

A Common data platform

Signals can be recorded easily through the standard recording module on NVGate, the OROS Noise & Vibration software platform. The Sound Quality software module operates directly on these time signals. Calculated results are also saved directly in the global data management. No need to import or export files, making data management extremely efficient. Consequently the user benefits from all data management tools provided by the software platform: sorting, filtering, and reporting.

Psychoacoustic metrics determination

Based on OROS instruments recorded time signals, the main psychoacoustic metrics can be determined are:

  • Loudness: DIN 45631/A1, ISO 532B, ISO 532-1, ISO 532-2
  • Sharpness
  • Fluctuation strength
  • Roughness
  • Tonality indicators (Prominence ratio & Tone-to-noise ratio)
  • Intelligibility indicators (Articulation index & Speech intelligibility index)

Color-spectrogram & filtered playback

Signals can be filtered by a cascade of up to 32 graphical and digital IIR filters, either frequency-based or order-based. Filtered signals are played back with instantaneous display of the filtered color spectrogram, making listening extremely visual. Signals can be listened to via an interactive playlist, which can be saved to set up an efficient comparison process.

Perceptual Explorer

Perceptual Explorer is a powerful tool for visual exploration, editing and resynthesis of auditory representations. The aural sensations are visible in the auditory spectrogram, which has a high time and frequency resolution that closely represents the human ear. It models human information processing using time and frequency contours as basic elements of sensory information acquisition, enabling intuitive sound design via editing time and frequency components “ms by ms” or “Hz by Hz”. Perceptual effects of single time and frequency component can be experienced. Edited auditory spectrogram or contours can be resynthesized, played back, and analyzed for verification and control purposes.
